Chartwell’s Senior Star is the largest celebration of seniors talent in Canada. Regional competitions take place in June – register before the curtain rises.

 MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO – April 23^rd, 2010 – Chartwell Seniors Housing REIT (TSX: CSH.UN) (“Chartwell”) is inviting seniors to participate in the fourth annual “Senior Star” singing and musical instrument competition.

The competition is held across Canada in Seniors Centres’, theatres and Chartwell residences. It is open to anyone who is 65 and over and a Canadian resident. Contestants do not have to be living in a Chartwell residence.

“Chartwell’s Senior Star contest has grown to be the largest celebration of seniors’ talent in Canada,” announced Brent Binions, President and CEO of Chartwell Seniors Housing REIT.  “We are proud to support the incredible talent of Canadian seniors.  Go to your local Chartwell residence and ask them for a copy of the DVD from the 2009 finale and you’ll agree that these talented performers get better with age and experience.” added Mr. Binions.

Those wishing to compete in 2010 may pick up a registration form at their local Chartwell Seniors Housing residence today, or they can visit our Senior Star locations page for more information.

At the Regional Competitions, contestants are given a maximum of five minutes to sing a song, play an instrument, or do both, and their performance is videotaped. Musical accompaniment is provided to singing contestants, if required. A panel of three judges, made up of musical experts, local government officials, and media representatives, choose the top three local contestants, each of whom will be recognized with a Senior Star trophy.

The first place winners then have a chance to be one of the ten competitors invited to compete in the Senior Star National Final. The ten finalists are chosen from the first-place winners of the Regional Competitions by a celebrity panel of judges, and will compete in the National Final, held at the Carlu, in Toronto, October 18^th, 2010.
